The best beach cottages book up quickly...

Tuesday 8th November 2011

OK, so it’s only November and the last thing on your mind is where you’re going to spend your summer holidays in 2012. For most of us it’s all about staving off the cold, keeping our heads down at work and only allowing ourselves to look as far as Christmas, which to be honest is enough to keep anyone occupied well into early December. But if you do get a few moments spare and allow the thought of next summer and lazy days on the beach to creep into your thoughts… then there’s something you need to consider! Every year it’s the same old story, the best cottages on the best beaches are always booked well in advance and the only way to avoid disappointment is to book now.

Even though many of the most popular beach cottages are already booked up, there are still plenty with free weeks during the popular months of July and August, or if you are looking for a reduced rate you can check prices and availability in June or September where in the majority of cases the sun is still shining and the water hasn’t quite frozen over. There are the popular upmarket UK seaside destinations such as St Ives, Torquay and Carbis Bay or if you prefer heading east why not try Camber Sands where there are some incredible beach houses for rent literally two steps from the golden sands which border your front garden. Wales beach cottages are very popular, try Anglesey which offers a range of beach activities, golf or coastal walks. Further north you might want to try some of our beach cottages in Ireland or Scotland.

Travelling abroad, it’s the same deal; the best cottages, villas or apartments are snapped up well in advance. So if you can take an hour or so to raise your head above the cold, the onrush of Christmas and everything else that seems to consume us at this time of the year… treat yourself and your family and book a special beach cottage for next year, you’ll be glad you did!

Surfing accommodation in the UK

Wednesday 26th October 2011

For surfers the South West coast of England or the West coast of Wales offers some of the best surfing conditions in Europe. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, you are sure to find your perfect wave. On many of the popular surfing beaches you will find surf shops where you can hire equipment or even book a lesson, no matter what your level of expertise. Some of the more popular locations where you will find particularly good surf include Caswell Bay in Wales, Sennen Cove or Newquay in Cornwall and Croyde in Devon.

If you’re less inclined to tackle the many water sports available and it’s more about buckets and spades or relaxing, then you might like to try Watergate Bay or St Ives in Cornwall, Woolacombe or Bigbury on Sea in Devon or Camber Sands in Sussex. The UK has literally hundreds of pristine beaches and hidden coves to choose from, many which hold the coveted Blue Flag European accreditation.

Many of the beach cottages or apartments offer lockable storage for such items as surfboards, body boards and wetsuits, a very practical addition to your beach accommodation. After a hard days surfing, sunbathing or coastal walking you can kick back and relax on your outdoor balcony, decking or garden, enjoying the views, the sound of the sea or the sizzle of the BBQ. Heaven…

Now you can book holiday cottages online...

Friday 14th October 2011

Following a very busy summer season we would like to thank you for all the feedback we have received. We have now read through it with great interest and have made a few wholesale changes, which we believe address the main issues that were highlighted. The overwhelming message was that you want all the holiday cottages to offer ‘live availability’ and the opportunity to ‘book online’. Well, as we do not own or manage any of the properties this presents a few challenges. So we came up with what we believe is a solution that works for everyone.

We have teamed up with a number of selected agents and owners in the UK and Europe who display real time availability and have the facility for online booking on their website and implemented a ‘Book Now’ button on their adverts on our site. When you click on ‘Book Now’ it takes you directly to the corresponding advert on the owner/agent’s website allowing you to check availability and book direct with the owner/manager of the property. The added benefit being that you are always assured of the lowest rates because you are dealing directly with the owner or the owners appointed agent. Also any current special offers will be displayed on their website which you may not have been aware of previously. So it’s a win-win situation for everyone!

We currently have about 1000 of the 3000 properties on the site set up in the ‘Book Now’ mode with many more being added over the coming months. We would also like to thank you for all the positive feedback we received. Many of you like the idea that we only take a selection of all the best holiday cottages, apartments and villas on or near the beach and advertise them on the site, offering what we think is the best choice of beach holiday rentals on the web. We also got some great comments from you about our easy to use interface and the uncluttered look and feel of the site. So thank you. We are working hard to make sure you have an even bigger and better selection to choose from in 2012, so why not join up to receive our free newsletter so you can keep up to date with any new properties and features as we introduce them.

Newquay - Perfect for beach holidays!

Friday 1st July 2011

Newquay is a favourite beach holiday destination for thousands of holidaymakers every summer. One of the more popular beaches to visit, especially for keen surfers, is Fistral Beach. Some call this the birthplace of the sport in the UK, as it is still the scene of some of the world’s biggest surfing events and contests. The International Surf Centre includes a surf shopping centre, restaurants and surf hire, as well as a surf school for those who fancy giving it a go for the first time. Fistral Beach is just under a kilometre from Newquay, and the long sandy beach is backed by sand dunes perfect for a relaxing day watching the surfers in action, a perfect way to spend the day when staying in holiday apartments in Newquay.

Another beach with plenty of activities is Lusty Glaze which benefits from the shelter of a cove, making it ideal for water sports. Popular with families, Towan Beach connects to Tolcarne and Great Western beaches at low tide to form a mile-long expanse of sand. This beach is dog-friendly throughout the year, so those staying in dog-friendly Newquay cottages can take a stroll along the shore without leaving their dog behind. Newquay’s Great Western Beach is close to the centre of the town and has plenty of rock pools for children to explore at low tide, so is a real favourite with those on family holidays in Newquay. The tides at Great Western Beach make it a great spot for those learning to surf.

Great beach cottages in Suffolk

Monday 2nd May 2011

The Suffolk coastline consists of over 60km of Heritage Coast, most of which is set in an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'. The Suffolk Coast includes the seaside towns of Aldeburgh and Felixstowe and provides a feeling of peace and tranquillity even at the height of summer, so an ideal spot to rent holiday cottages in Suffolk. Aldeburgh is a charming and fashionable seaside town, which used to be an old fishing and shipbuilding centre; even now fishermen still haul their boats up the steep shingle beach, and sell their catch each morning. The high street has attractive Georgian buildings housing independent shops, galleries and restaurants - including fish and chips - apparently some of the best in the country. Felixstowe is a Victorian resort which retains much of its original charm. The 6 km long seafront features a sand and shingle beach with Blue Flag status, beautiful award-winning gardens, a paved promenade and a pier.

Felixstowe is particularly good for families, offering safe clean bathing and a host of activities likely to appeal to younger children. The coastline is dotted with seaside villages, such as Thorpeness with its steeply shelving shingle beach. To the north, Dunwich is noted for its shelving shingle beach, crumbling cliffs and fish and chips. Whilst neighbouring Walberswick has sand dunes and an annual crabbing competition. Also don't miss the quiet rural beaches and flora-rich dunes at Sizewell, and Shingle Street, where the steep shingle beach is a good place to hunt for the precious gem amber. Suffolk beach cottages allow you the freedom to spend time on the beach during the day and retire to the comfort of your private oasis at night. No wonder the Suffolk beach cottages listed on beachlets are booking up fast!
