A lesser known holiday retreat, Boscombe, which lies to the east of Bournemouth, burst onto the holiday scene when the pier was built in1888 supporting the growth of the small village into a thriving tourist destination in Victorian times.

Boscombe is known mainly for its art deco and modernist architecture and while its 19th century pier was completely renovated in 2008, it has kept many of its original features.

Close to all the wide-ranging coastal facilities along this Dorset coastline, Boscombe has become an increasingly popular destination more recently as an alternative to the busier Bournemouth holiday resort. The Boscombe Gardens and long stretch of family beach are among its best features.
