General

In Salcombe, on a private lane, within 3/4 mile of the beaches and quay, an impressive, 19th cent. detached house built for the owners’ great grandfather by the fashionable architect, C. Harrison Townsend. It has glorious long views of the estuary and lush coast from all rooms except one. A large, enclosed garden surrounds it with paved parking at the front, and lawn/shrubs on two levels at the back.

Inside, every inch a lovely, comfortable, much appreciated home. The moment you step through the front door, the gorgeous view strikes you; an open hall (loo/washbasin) leads into the comfort-designed living room with views down the garden and across the water and French windows opening on to a sunny terrace (table/chairs); second cosier living room with TV/Sky/DVD/video and same views. Smart, stylish kitchen/dining room (2 dishwashers, microwave, fridge-freezer, double oven range cooker) with double butler sinks, beech worktops, TV and those views! From back door, 5 steps down to courtyard and outhouses (washing machine, tumble drier, smart wet-room/loo ideal for sandy people, wetsuit/surfboard storage).

Back in the living room, elegant curving stairs up to five bedrooms – three with 6’ double beds (two zip-linked, another with en suite shower-room suite plus bidet, one with a little balcony, and the third with additional 5’ long child’s bed); one with two single beds; and a narrow bedroom with two sets of bunk beds; two bathrooms (suites, one plus bath-power-shower, and one plus hand-shower). Ready meals available. Cautionary Deposit £200. Stunningly beautiful spot.

This is a super area for a family holiday and we will return to this area again. The positive points : large size, nice view, really well equipped kitchen, new bathrooms, full Sky TV with movies & sport. the negatives : The garden is too steep thus unused but the patio is fine (watch out for small children near the 6 ft drop down to the garden) Located up some very steep climbs so walking anywhere wasn't an option. The soft furnishings have seen better days. A jolly good detailed clean wouldn't go amiss. - Deb on 5th Jul 2011

We had a wonderful week at here, beautiful views, beautiful location and beautiful weather. Salcombe is a real treasure. - Mrs A Elderton on 26th Apr 2011

Beautiful 'family' home in stunning location with breathtaking views, very well equipped, very spacious and roomy, we surprised my sister for her 60th birthday and spent a truly wonderful week together. Hope to return one day - Mrs Beasley on 24th Aug 2010

Excellent accomodation, location and weather. Garden was a bit steep for the adults but the kids loved it. - Mr t j precious on 14th Jun 2009

We had a marvellous time. We could hardly believe the view and the beautiful presentation of the house and its facilities! We certainly would love to go there again, but with the present babies growing bigger it might present a problem in future. There might be just too many of us. - Holidaymaker on 19th Apr 2009

The house was a wonderful family home and we feel very lucky to have found it. The views are fabulous although the garden a bit steep for young children, (the dog loved it). We would love to go back one day. Please thank the owners for some treasured memories. - Mrs B.Webster on 6th Sep 2008

A very comfortable house with superb views, in a lovely part of the country. A steep walk to town or beaches, but ample parking at the beach. ideal for a family get together. - Holidaymaker on 12th Aug 2008
