The Ionian Islands are an archipelago that sweeps down the west coast of mainland Greece and includes some stunning islands. These islands are well known for their beautiful sandy beaches and coves, crystal clear waters, charming villages and stunning scenic countryside which is lush and blooming with natural beauty. Each island has a distinct character and between them they offer adventure seekers, culture vultures or beach bums everything you could wish for from a Greek Island holiday. Corfu is the second-largest and the greenest Ionian island. With its beguiling country landscape of wildflowers, cypress trees and shimmering olive groves and townscapes of Parisian-style arcades and Venetian-style alleyways, Corfu hangs in there as one of Greece’s most beautiful islands. Kefalonia is the largest of the Ionian group and perhaps the most varied. It hides secrets and surprises below its rugged, towering mountain range of the Erisos peninsula in the north, citrus and olive groves and sprawling vineyards of the south west and the huge sandy beaches of the south east coast. Winter rains make Kefalonia one of the greenest and lushest of Ionians and produces some of the best wine in Greece.
